From Accounting Office…to Dance Studio
This commercial space in California needed to go from ‘meh’ accounting office to chic downtown dance studio. We removed a few walls that had formed the individual offices and old carpeting to create a shell before installing a wood dance floor. In the lobby of the space I did not want to use new materials and loved the look of the concrete for this street front urban venue. For the waiting room space, the concrete was polished and sealed and I sourced a midcentury modern sofa and credenza for the front window display as well as some industrial-looking second hand pieces. Solving the issue of a structural pillar in the center of the room, I used it to delineate where the dance floor started and created a fun photo and chalkboard schedule feature. Vintage, colorful dance records plus the fun, cheery retro palette helped bring the space to life.
